What changed

Stable against the prior assessment: the baseline holds, no new transaction, injury or game result has moved it, and the reporting window added only promotional-schedule and prospect housekeeping.

Why it matters

Tampa Bay is still a 100-point regular-season machine, but four straight first-round exits mean this season gets judged on one thing only: whether this roster finally wins a playoff round.

What to watch

Hedman's health and workload; Pro Hockey Rumors reported the defenseman is good to go for camp, but a 36-year-old number one is a season-long exposure, not a box to check.

What would change our mind

Sustained five-on-five decline across the first two months, a material Hedman or Andrei Vasilevskiy injury, or a collapse out of the Atlantic top three.

The counterevidence

No 2026-27 regular-season games have been played, so every roster judgment is projection until the puck drops October 1 at Madison Square Garden.
Carlson and Mikheyev are veterans on the back nine; whether they move the needle or rearrange the furniture is unproven.
Prior-season team stats describe last year's roster, which changed around the edges.
