What changed

Stable against prior reads. No official transaction, injury report or game result moved the baseline, while September added single-source contract talk around Kucherov, a Raw Charge profile of winger Ethan Gauthier, a Tampa Bay Times prospect list, news of former Lightning coach and broadcaster Barry Melrose passing, and a mascot award, none of which changes lineup geometry.

Why it matters

Tampa Bay still bullies winters and wilts in springs, September brought noise but no new answer.

What to watch

Camp cuts that set the real 23, the line assignment for Geekie in week one, and any official update on pair usage behind the top defensemen.

What would change our mind

Sustained five on five slide across the first two months, a major injury to a top center, defenseman or starting goalie, or a fall outside the Atlantic top three.

The counterevidence

No 2026-27 regular season games have been played, so every judgment on this group remains projection until opening night.
Prior season totals describe a mix that changed on defense, wing and backup goalie, the cap figure carries a pull error that forces a recheck, and single-source contract chatter around right wing Niki
